Need For Speed – Undercover
Need For Speed – Undercover iPhone Game:
In Need for Speed – Undercover, race
types include circuit races, sprints and cop takeouts – where the player
must disable a number of police cruisers before the clock runs out.
Winning a race earns the player cash prizes that can be used to upgrade
the car or unlock new ones.
Unlike many other racing games, Need for Speed Undercover is purely a single-player game. The story starts with the player as an undercover cop who must infiltrate the underground racing scene of the Tri-City Bay Area and break up a smuggling ring. The story is told through a series of full-motion video cinema scenes. In order to advance up the ranks of the underworld, the player must win a series of events across the three neighborhoods. The events span straight-up races, cop chases, escape runs, and vehicle deliveries. Although the events repeat themselves across the 24 stages, they are nicely spaced so the player never does the same thing over and over again. The game is graphically superb. The backdrops are impressive, as are the car models. The use of effects for speed, like blur and motion lines, are astounding and breathtaking.
Need for Speed Undercover controls are
well designed with a combination of tilt and touch. As the car
auto-accelerates, the player has to steer with tilt. The player might
need a few practice runs to get used to the sensitivities of the game as
there is no way to recalibrate the controls. To brake, the player just
needs to tap the screen with a finger. To hit the nitrous, he can swipe
one finger up. To engage the speed-breaker, simply pull a finger down
the screen. This slows the game into bullet time, giving the player a
few seconds to think fast while the world around slows down.
As the player wins races, he earns cash
which can be used for upgrading cars in categories such as top speed and
handling – or for buying entirely new cars. Adding upgrades to cars
really makes a difference, which is good to see. The new cars bought are
based on real- world rides and look remarkably like their real-life
counterparts. The AI of the other racers, particularly the cops is
pretty unforgiving. This adds to a challenging game-play and the player
has to work really hard to outsmart the cops.
